Personnel Office Identifier (POI)

Updated monthly | Last updated  January 08, 2026

  • Use the filter to locate a POI, a unique number assigned by OPM to identify a Federal civilian personnel office.
  • Each POI has delegated authority to appoint and separate employees, prepare personnel actions, maintain official personnel records, and administer programs for staffcompensation, training and development, benefits and awards, and employee/labor relationships. POIs are not intended for tracking purposes.

  • OPM maintains a file of personnel offices' contact details, including addresses, names, and phone numbers of officials. This file aids researchers and analysts at agencieslike GAO, MSPB, and OPM in distributing surveys and conducting studies. Agencies must keep this information current and report any changes to OPM promptly. Additionally, OPM provides a database of active POI codes accessible to federal agencies for their use.

The data presented on this page reflects the EHRI (Enterprise Human Resources Integration) view of the information and may not represent all possible values used across other systems. Other systems may maintain additional values that are not included here due to differences in scope, user base, and data sources.
